This site contains a collection of drawings by visual artist Pierre Guynot de Boismenu inspired by the name of stars from various galaxies.
Meet Pedro (a.k.a. Pierre)
I’m Pierre Guynot de Boismenu. And I’m also Pedro Guynot de Boismenu. Double nationality at birth landed me this gift of multiple names (although technically they are the same).
I’m a visual artist based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. I’ve been an active photographer since 2008 with experience in product photography, still life, home décor & interior photography. In 2020 I restarted an old passion for doodling, and drawing, that I had sadly abandoned on my late teens.
In this site I explore the theme of Galaxies and Stars as inspiration for a series of drawings.
Being an artist
I always struggled with art titles, and the “right” to use them. If we look at the definition of visual art from English dictionaries we find these:
Visual arts
plural noun
a visual object or experience consciously created through an expression of skill or imagination.
Visual artist
someone involved in the arts of painting, sculpting, photography, etc.
Note that it doesn’t include anything like, “received many awards”, achieved fame” or “is recognized worldwide”. As long as you are producing a piece of work that originates from your imagination and using your skills, no matter how advanced or novice, you are a visual artists.
I wrote the following lines some years ago. They capture what I think art is, including the emotional aspect of producing it which I feel is missing in the formal definitions from above.
“An art piece is the result of a person’s idea or vision transferred into some sort of media. An artist is a person that has the desire to express those ideas to the world. There are many vehicles to make this possible, music instruments, brushes and paint, pen and paper, etc. But what all of them have in common is that they allow the artist to transfer that idea/vision into some physical media. This is an emotional, sometimes illogical process, but when found, and worked on, it will produce great satisfaction.”
